Elstree & Borehamewood Masorti Synagogue

About EBMS

Back in mid 2006, as part of the development plan for Masorti we started looking at areas, which could support a Masorti community. With the influx of young Jewish people to Elstree and Borehamwood it seemed obvious that this was such an area.

After an exploratory "What is Masorti evening" held in November 2006 fifty-five people attended a Havdalah and Chanukah tea which launched the community. Friday evening services, held every three weeks, were started in January. A Purim party and Matzo ramble helped mark the festival year and were very well attended.

The first Shabbaton took place at the end of April led by Rabbi Chaim Weiner, Head of the European Masorti Bet Din, it was an outstanding success with all participants enjoying a truly meaningful Shabbat together.
