Chanichim - Shorashim Aleph Y5

Shorashim Aleph Camp 2008

Dates:

July 28th - August 6th

Hello and Goodbye from Shorashim Aleph!!!

As camp now draws to a close we are extremely happy with the way the last ten days have gone. There has been laughter, excitement, fun activities, chilled out times, movie nights and more. The Chanichim have had a great time on camp and as the sun begins to set on Shorashim Aleph 2008 they are, no doubt, looking forward to a night in their own beds! Today is a calm day of tidying up, processing camp and chilling out with friends. Tonight there will be a Shorashim Aleph party in which they will perform skits, sing together, have snacks, listen to music, receive certificates and more! We are all very excited. Although we will be sad to see them go, we have all had a fantastic time and cannot wait until next year - until Shorashim Bet 2009!!!

Hello from Shorashim Aleph!!! (Monday 4th August)

We had an absolutely lovely Shabbat!! The sun came out on Friday night just as we started the service! Dinner was full of excitement, energy and laughter. Saturday was a little more chilled, with the Chanichim participating in structured free time for the majority of the day which included Frisbee, football, 'chatting' and story telling. The lovely day was concluded with a beautiful Havdallah. Yesterday was more active - the Chanichim went on out of bounds activities - returning with big smiles and saying they had 'loads of fun'. Their day had a calming end with everyone watching Alvin and the Chipmunks before bed! Today they are again on out of bound activities from which they return in about an hour or so. Tonight they'll have a quiet and fun evening programme, and tomorrow is the last full day of camp! Check again this time tomorrow for another update!

Friday 1st August

Hi all. I am very sorry for the lack of update yesterday...the website seems to have been down...! However, Shorashim Aleph have been having a great time. On Wednesday the Chanichim participated in a range of exciting outdoor activities from canoeing to archery! (They swap over so that those who still havn't done canoeing will have done so by the end of camp) Yesterday (Thursday) was Israel day for Shorashim Aleph!! They participated in a range of fun and gripping peulot in which they engaged with many aspects of Israeli life. Many of the Madrichim, for instance, dressed up as Israeli characters to make it both fun and informative! They also joined their Chuggim (activities: cooking, art, dance etc) to continue with what they had been doing earlier this week. Today we look forward to welcoming a lovely and relaxing Shabbat. The atmosphere already feels calmer and ready for a beautiful and communal Shabbat...Shabbat Shalom!

Good evening from Shorashim Aleph on Tuesday 29th July!!!

The Chanichim woke this morning to their first full day of camp!! They are looking very settled already and we are seeing smiles and laughter everywhere! After Shacharit, and a breakfast of cereal, hash browns, spaghetti letters, toast and more, the Chanichim went straight into a peula (programme) which they thoroughly enjoyed! They then had some free time (which luckily coincided with the breakthrough of some sunshine) in which they were able to relax, be on the field, and get to know each other some more. Later on they had their Chuggim (activities) which they had chosen the day before, and rumour tells us the cookery class made some delicious pizza! They are now in the after dinner peula, the sun is shining again as they enter into their second evening of camp. It will be an early night tonight for them...a chance to relax after all the excitement and exhilaration of the first full day of camp! Check again this time tomorrow for another update of Shorashim Aleph 2008!!!

Monday 28th July 1008, 8.00pm

Arriving, settling down, having fun!

The Chanichim have arrived safely. It is absolutely stunning here and we have no doubt that the Chanichim are about to have an absolutely wonderful camp. Upon arrival they went out onto the field in the glorious sunshine for some group bonding and getting to know you games. The sound of fun and laughter could be heard from the other side of the site. After dinner they have an exciting introduction to chugim (activities such as cookery, art, music, drama etc.), after which they will be able to choose which they would like to pursue throughout camp. They will then finish the day with a bang - a colour war!!; a programme where different groups (dressed in different colours) compete to be the winning colour. It promises to be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to meet other chanichim and just let go! Check out the website at this time tomorrow to find out more about this evening and tomorrow and also the photo page!
